Arterial System Supplying the brain Flashcards
What are the 3 arterial systems supplying the brain
Anterior Cerebral
Middle Cerebral
Posterior Cerebral
What structures does the Anterior cerebral artery serve
Basal Ganglia; corpus callosum; medial surface of cerebral hemisphere; superior surface of frontal and parietal lobe
Conditions caused by Occlusion of the Anterior Cerebral artery
Hemiplegia on the contralateral side of the body
Greater in lower extremities than in upper extremities
What structures does the Middle Cerebral artery serve
Frontal lobe; parietal lobe; temporal lobe (primarily cortical surface)
Conditions caused by Occlusion of the Middle Cerebral artery
Aphasia in dominant hemisphere and contralateral hemiplegia
What structures does the Posterior Cerebral artery serve
Part of diencephalon and temporal lobe; occipital lobe
Conditions caused by Occlusion of the Posterior Cerebral artery
Visual loss; sensory loss; contralateral hemiplegia if cerebral peduncle affected
