4.1 pottery
Pots, dishes, and other articles made of fired clay. Pottery can be broadly divided into earthenware, porcelain, and stoneware.
4.2 plastic
This term refers to clay that is mouldable and can be easily shaped.
4.3 slip
Clay that has water added to it. It can be used to join clay together.
4.4 bisque
Clay that has been fired in the kiln and is ready to be painted or glazed.
4.5 leather-hard
Clay that is in the process of becoming dry. Clay in this state hold its own and is great for slab building.
4.6 bone dry
Clay that is extremely dry and is in its most fragile state. It can be broken easily and it is ready to be fired.
4.7 slip and score
The only way to attach 2 pieces of clay together.
4.8 bas-relief
A term used to describe something sticking out from a surface.
4.9 kiln
A furnace or oven for burning, baking or drying pottery.
4.10 Sprigging
A way of applying low-relief decorative shapes to a pot
4.11 score
The process of making marks such as hatching lines into the clay surface.
