Medici Family
The 1st great sculptor of the Renaissance. He revived the classical (Greco-Roman) style of sculpture that were realistic and viewed from all sides.
Donatello
One of the most famous Renaissance artists; He was a painter, sculptor, architect, and poet. His work showed realism, detail of the human body, and expression to show personality and emotion. His sculptures “Pieta” and “David” are considered masterpieces. His greatest work is the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, showing Biblical images of great detail, power, and beauty.
Michelangelo
A true renaissance man. He was a painter known for incredible realism and emotion. He was also an inventor and scientist whose sketches reveal observations about human anatomy and new engineering technology. His two most famous pieces are his “Last Supper” painting and his “Mona Lisa”.
Leonardo da Vinci
This man perfected Renaissance painting. He improved perspective and realism by studying Leonardo and Michelangelo. He was the Pope’s favorite painter because of his amazing detail within his paintings showing a combination of famous Greeks and Romans along with people of the Renaissance. His greatest painting was the “School of Athens” which blended Classical figures from Greece and Rome with important people from the Renaissance.
Raphael
Florence’s greatest architect. He studied the Roman Pantheon when he built the Cuppolo fo Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. The dome inspired modern buildings.
Filippo Brunelleschi
Known for his plays and literature, he shaped the Renaissance in England.
William Shakespeare
The Renaissance spread from Italy as scholars and merchants from other areas visited Italian city-states; As these ideas spread, this “Northern Renaissance” developed its own characteristics.
Northern Renaissance
This Renaissance was most known for its unique architecture.
French Renaissance
This Renaissance was most known for literature, especially the plays of William Shakespeare.
English Renaissance
This Renaissance was most known for realism art.
