- renewed interest in many things
- education (made it more important) - math, science, & literature all made great advances
- Petrarch was from Florence (part of reason why Humanism was there)

A
- pop. will crash
- estimated 50% of all Europeans would die in 5 yr period
- economy crashes
- pop. will boom back & economy will boom back
- very large middle class is formed
- bc workers drive pay now bc employers need them
- middle class starts buying luxuries
- starts sending kids to schools, starts buying art & books & other luxurious things
- could afford to buy everything that makes the Renaissance the Renaissance
- Florence got the Plague 1st & recovered 1st

How did Constantinople affect the Italian Renaissance?
A
- Western Roman Empire fell but Eastern didn’t, they were just fine
- became known as Byzantium
- all the smart people in Byzantium left when Muslims invaded Constantinople
- moved to Italy, particularly Florence (bc culture & language = similar between 2 places) - smart people who fled Constantinople brought back advanced ideas & knowledge to Florence
