Had to be approved by Goebbels and give a positive Nazi message.

During Weimar years Nazi’s set up militant league for German culture to campaign against modern plays, once in power shut down some theatres.

Some books by Jewish and ‘Un German’ authors publicly burned.
How was art affected?
1936 public exhibition and burning of ‘degenerate’ art. Paintings had to show Nazi ideals.
How was design affected?
Closed down important Bauhaus group in 1933. Nazis preferred huge stone building based on ancient Greek or Roman designs.
How was sport and leisure affected?
Health and physical fitness was very important to Nazis. 1936 Olympics used as propaganda. Leni Riefenstahl film.
