Arrhythmia Drugs Flashcards
What is Adenosine used for?
Supraventicular Tachycardia (SVT)
How does Adenosine work?
Briefly hyperpolarises AV node and prevents impulse conduction
What is Digoxin used for?
Atrial fibrillation (AF)
How does digoxin work?
Slows conduction in the AV node
What is Verapimil used for?
Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter
How does Verapimil work?
slows conduction and increases refractory period in the AV node
What is Lignocaine used for?
Post MI ventricular arrhythmias
How does lignocaine work?
Blocks Na channels in ischaemic areas of the heart (where conduction is faster)
What is Disopyranide for?
Prevention of ventricular arrhythmias
How does Dispoyranide work?
Blocks open Na channels
What is Flecainide used for?
Prevention of AF
How does flecainide work?
Decreases conduction in myocardium so reduces contractility
What is Amiodarone used for?
To suppress re-entry (SVT/VT)
How does Amiodarone work?
Blocks K channels to slow repolarisation
What is used to treat AF?
Digoxin
