arousal and theories Flashcards
what is arousal?
it is a blend of the physiological and psychological activity in a person and it refers to the intensity dimensions of motivation at a particular moment.
zone of optimal functioning (arousal)
mental state where everything for the performer is perfect optimal arousal occurs for the individual
inverted u theory (arousal)
performance improves as arousal levels increase but there is a threshold point
catastrophe theory (arousal)
increases in levels of cognitive anxiety will help performance if somatic anxiety is low
multidimensional theory (stress & anxiety)
it states that cognitive and somatic anxiety have independent relationships with performance. State anxiety is multidimensional with its two components (cognitive & somatic) influencing performance differently
