AROM/PROM Flashcards
What are the 4 patterns associated with AROM/PROM?
ROM, WNL, pain free (normal)
Pain and limitation in all directions
Pain and limitation (or hypermobility) in some directions
Limited ROM and pain free
Contractile tissue
Pain w/ AROM in same direction
Pain w/ A/PROM in opposite direction
Noncontractile tissue
No pain w/ AROM in same direction
Pain w/ A/PROM in opposite direction
Strong and painless muscle contraction
No lesion of motor unit or nervous tissue supplying it
Strong and painful muscle contraction
Local lesion (minor tweak) of muscle or tendon (strain)
Weak and painless muscle contraction
Rupture of muscle or its tendon or involvement of peripheral n. or n. root supplying it - neurological involvement or tendon rupture should be suspected first
Weak and painful muscle contraction
Severe lesion around involved joint (i.e. fx) - weakness can be result of muscles around the joint secondary to pain (or severe strain)
