Regulation for Army Body Composition Program?
AR 600-9
Purpose of ABCP?
ensure all Soldiers achieve and maintain optimal well-being and performance under all conditions (operational readiness, physical fitness, health, military appearance, body fat standards)
Body composition:
indicator of physical readiness that is associated with an individual’s fitness, endurance, and overall health.
How often will soldiers be screened (weigh-in) to ensure compliance with AR 600-9?
Every 6 months
When must soldiers receive a body fat estimate?
When they exceed the authorized screening table weight for their age & height When
CO’s determine appearance suggests body fat is excessive
What happens if a soldier exceeds the body fat standard?
Flag IAW AR 600-8-2 and enrollment into ABCP
Follow exercise guidance by fitness training NCO/MFT until standards are met
Nutrition counseling by registered dietician/health care provider
Assistance with behavioral modifications
What happens if a soldier exceeds the body fat standard twice?
Within 12 months:
Medical evaluation (no condition found)
Bar to reenlistment, initiate separation action; transfer to IRR
After 12 months but within 36 months:
Medical evaluation (no condition found) Reenrollment into ABCP (90 days to meet standard) *if not met within 30 days (bar, separation; IRR)
Name some instances where/when soldiers are not required to meet body fat standards.
Medical Exemption
New recruits (180 days to meet standard)
Pregnant/postpartum soldiers
Soldiers who’ve undergone prolonged hospitalization (30 days +)
Are Soldier who have been given a Temporary Profile required to meet standards set forth in ABCP?

When measuring body fat, how many times are the measurements taken and where on the body?

Where are measurements precisely made on the body?
Male
Neck – just under larynx (adam’s apple), perpendicular to long axis of neck
Waist – across the naval (against skin)
Female

Waist – point of minimal circumference (usually between naval and sternum)
Hip-tape around hips over greatest protrusion of buttocks (parallel to floor, side)
