Definition of a Firearm
Shot, bullet, missile or other projectiles that can be discharged by force of explosive includes:
- anything adapted
- anything by its completion or replacement or the correction or repair of any defects
- anything which is dismantled or partially dismantled
- any specially dangerous airgun.
Definition of an Airgun
Any airgun, air pistol, weapon from with any missile etc can be discharged by the use of compressed air or gas.
Definition of Imitation Firearm
Anything that has the appearance of a firearm WHETHER or not it is capable of discharging any shot.
Pistol definition
Designed or adapted to held and be fired in one hand, includes any fire arm that is LESS THAN 762 MM in length.
Restricted weapon definition.
Any weapon declared restricted by the Governor-General:
- Molotov cocktail
- Grenades
- Rocket launchers.
Definition of Explosive:
Any substance capable or exploding or producing a pyrotechnic effect:
- dynamite
- TNT
- maritime distress flares
When should a FireArms License be renewed?
Every 10 years
What is class A of a Firearm License?
Full License - conventional firearms.
What is class B of a Firearm License?
Pistols - must belong to a pistols club.
What is class C of a Firearm License?
Collectors, restricted weapons and theatrical use.
What is class D of a Firearm License?
Dealers in firearms.
What is the licensing procedure for a Firearm?
- Person 16 years + decides they want a fire arms license
(age 16-18 need a parent/legal guardian permission) - Applicant lodged with the Police
- Applicant sits and passes the firearms test.
- Police conduct inquiries into the applicant’s suitability.
- License is issued.
If a Police Officer requests your firearms license, when do you have to produce it?
Straight away.
If a Police Officer requests your firearms license and you do not have it on you, how long do you have to hand it in to the Police Station?
7 days.
If you change your address, when do you have to notify the Police?
Within 30 days.
