Definition of ‘Firearm’
Anything from which shot / bullet / missile / projectile that is discharged by explosive force.
Definition of ‘Prohibited firearm’
- Semi automatic firearms (except pistol)
- pump action shotgun capable of using a detachable magazine
- pump action shotgun that has a non-detachable tubular magazine or a magazine of holding more than 5 cartridges commensurate with that firearms chamber size
- Any other firearm declared by order in council made under section 74A to be prohibited
Definition of ‘Prohibited magazine’ in relation to a shotgun
A magazine that is capable of holding more than 5 cartridges commensurate with that shotguns chamber size
Definition of ‘Prohibited magazine’ in relation to firearm (except pistol / shotgun)
- Capable of holding 0.22 calibre or lower rimfire cartridges & capable of holding more than 10 of those cartridges
- Capable of holding more than 10 cartridges & being used with a semi-automatic or automatic firearm
- Any other firearm declared by order in council made under section 74A to be prohibited
Definition of ‘Prohibited part’
- A part of a prohibited firearm
- a component that can be applied to enable a firearm to be fired with / near to semi-automatic or automatic action

- Air rifle
- Air pistol
- weapon which fires any shot / bullet / missile / projectile by means of gas or compressed air
Definition of ‘Intimidation firearm’
Anything that has the appearance of a firearm
Definition of ‘Pistol’
- Designed or adapted to be held & fired with one hand.
- Includes firearms that are less than 762mm in length
Definition of ‘Restricted weapon’
Any weapon declared restricted by the governor-general i.e. Molotov cocktails, grenades, rocket launchers.
Definition of ‘Explosive’
Substance capable of exploding or producing a pyrotechnic effect i.e. dynamite, TNT, flares

Firearm that is discharged & loaded with with each pull of the trigger
