Arm c/ci Flashcards
avoid puncturing the radial artery
L-9 and L-8
acupuncture and moxibustion are contraindicated in pregnant women
Li-4
avoid injuring the artery (radial collateral a&v)
Li-13
avoid puncturing the axillary artery
H-1
locate and needle with the elbow sl flexed, avoiding the cubital vein
L-5
avoid puncturing the cephalic vein
L-7
c/i in pregnancy
Li-4
this point is usually significantly tender to palpation
Li-10
perpendicular insertion (towards gb 21), 0.5-1 cun, avoiding the axillary artery. caution: medial insertion towards chest may puncture the lung
H-1
oblique distal or proximal insertion, 0.5-1 cun avoiding the brachial artery. note: many early classics only discuss moxa re this point. impying that needling was c/i perhaps because of danger to the brachial artery.
H-2
caution: under the ulnar artery and ulnar nerve lie adjacent to this point
H-7
perpendicular insertion 0.5-2 cun towards Li-3. needle with the hand in a loose fist with the metacarpal bones lying in the same plane; esp important when needling deepy towards opposite side of hand
Si-3
caution: ulnar nerve lies deep to this point
Si-8
caution: the brachial artery and veins lie deeply, just medial to this point
P-3
the median nerve lies directly under this point and needling commonly induces a significant electric sensation, this is an acceptable manifestation of de qi (arrival of qi) but once elicited further manipulation is inappropriate and may damage the nerve
P-6 and P-7
