The reason the writer is writing; the goal of the writing piece
Similar to claim
position
the author’s opinion/position about the topic

statistics, facts, examples, definitions, or expert opinions that are used to explain and support the claim
evidence
the position taken by the other side
counterclaim
what the writer presents to refute and explain away the counterclaim
rebuttal
reliable, trustworthy, dependable; when a source can be counted on as being accurate
credible
uses numbers to persuade
citing statistics
everyone else is doing/buying/believing it, and I should too!
bandwagon
An expert in a field is present (Dr, principle, etc.)
Citing Authority
A regular person or celebrity states his/her opinion.
Testimonial
Makes you feel something (happy, sad, excited, etc.)
Emotional Appeal
Words that sound great but have very little meaning, or different meanings to different people.
