Reasons given to support a position that is subject to doubt in some specific respects.
How did Cicero describe an argument?
A reasoning that lends belief to a doubtful issue.
How is assessed the effectiveness of an argument?
Assessed contextually from the perspective of an ideal model of reasonableness - their capacity of solving a potential or actual disagreement.
How is an argument a discourse?
It’s a discourse made of a set of premises supporting a conclusion based on specific principals. The discourse has a specific interactional purpose: lending belief to an issue that is doubtful.
It’s a discourse providing reasons in favor of the acceptance of a conclusion which our audience or interlocutor is doubtful or contrary to.
