Area Survey Flashcards
Reasons for Area Survey NNPP
Ensure personnel do not exceed radiation exposure limits
Determine whether abnormal radiation levels and to determine the extent and magnitude of radiation levels
Reasons for Area Survey Nuclear WPN’s Program
Done by shore stowage and maintenance facilities to assess radiation levels in selected areas
Reasons for Area Survey per RASP
Shall be conducted and documented for all fixed facilities classified as an exempt shielded or shielded facility to ensure radiations levels are within regulations.
Periodicity for an area survey per Nuclear WPN’s program
Situationally. Maintenance survey points should be concentrated where people typically are located during maintenance
Areas outside of Nuclear WPN’s stowage and maintenance area are monitored by area monitors (BUMED Area Monitor or Neutron Area Monitor) and are monitored per LiF issue period.
representative ship of each class that is assigned organization level maintenance responsibilities has surveys listed in OD69206
Periodicity for an Area Survey per NNPP
Duration: Shift, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semiannual, Annual, situationally.
Areas to be: RC/Plant, CSCA’s, Temporary boundaries, RAM storage area, Radiation/high radiation area. m
Periodicity for an area survey per RASP
Radiation Protection Survey: prior to placing a facility into operation
every two years for all active fixed facilities
Whenever there is a change in: Equipment, shielding, occupancy, procedures
when obvious damage
Suspected change to integrity of facility shielding
Closeout survey made and documented
Surveys where quantities of radioactive materials in excess of those on table 3. Q6 months
RADIAC repair facility
Semiannual
Contaminated survey where contaminated instruments or sources are handled Daily
Gamma Radiography Radiation Surveys
Capable of measuring 2mR/hr to 100mR/hr
