Area Monitoring Flashcards
Area Monitoring Purpose
Record accessible areas to ensure that non-radiation workers do not exceed 500mrem per year and members of public are not exposed in excess of limits.
Duration of issue and collection coincides with issue period of DT-702/PD
Environmental Monitoring Purpose
Areas accessible to the general public to verify members of the (GP) are not likely to exceed a TEDE of 100 mrem per year and external sources do not exceed 2 mrem in any given hour.
Posting Dosimeter devices in nuclear propulsion areas
Personnel could receive high radiation exposure in the event of a nuclear critical accident include secondary shield of an operating reactor plant and where operations are performed that change reactivity
In spaces that are posted with TLD’s. DT-518/PD
Monitoring Ambient photon/beta radiation is measured
DT-702/PD cards are placed in black holder in accessible areas immediately adjacent to restricted areas
Monitoring ambient neutron is measured
DT-702/PD is placed in polyethylene cylinder that is essentially same size and design as AN/PDR-70 and mounted adjacent to restricted areas.
Designated Neutron Area Monitor, Two forms NAM-1 and 5 drawer NAM-5
NAM or BUMED area Monitor:
Monitor gamma and neutron levels in berthings outside nuclear WPN’s stowage
Requirements for monitoring dental facility
Dental spaces are not required to issue personal dosimeter or conduct area monitoring
Dental repair technicians who service radiological equipment shall wear dosimeter
Personnel who operate cone-beam dental (CT) should receive radiation physicals and spaces monitored as appropriate.
