Are You Serious About Medical School Flashcards
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’m really interested in primary care, so in 10 years I see myself practicing as a PCP. I am aware of health care disparities including access to care and the fact that part of the issue is simply having a physician that looks like their patients, so I see myself practicing in a low income community to help meet these needs. I find great joy in serving the underserved and underrepresented.
What would you do if you did not get into medical school?
Reapply. I would try to find out what went wrong by soliciting feedback from the school and try to adjust to make myself a better applicant. I’m also really interested in clinical work, so I’d get more involved in my clinical internship at my school’s health system. I’d also continue my research work in the concussions center at my school.
What are your career goals?
I plan to specialize in pediatric internal medicine, working in a community hospital or clinic. The great need for PCP’s, has particular influenced my decision, as there has predicted to be a shortage of 12.5 thousand to 31 thousand physicians by 2025.
During my experiences volunteering with kids at my church and shadowing a mentor of mine in the UF Health Neurosurgery Clinic, I have grown to love both working with kids and the primary care role.
Describe a memorable experience on your application. Why was it so memorable?
Shadowing Nurse Wolfe
- She is the definition of a high quality healthcare provider
- My experiences with her taught me that the technical skills are important, but they can be learned. Having integrity and high regard for ethics is he hard part and it is even more important in many ways.
- Prior to shadowing her, I had never seen a health care provider listen to a patient as well as she did. And I had never seen patients leave their appointments so satisfied and happy
- I decided that I want to impact patients in that same way, treat them with
As a future physician, what will your top priority be?
- Advocate for my patients
