Introduction: Define dictatorship. Negative associations: Hitler, Mussolini but can be a form of rule that benignly unites a fractured country.
Negative features:
- Typically only a ruthless individual come to this type of power.
- No checks and balances in their style of rule.
This type of leadership not allow change.
Positive features
- Some countries are very divided and cannot be effectively ruled by a democratic system.
Tito Yugoslavia - Some dictatorships countries can be very effective because they do not permit debate and dissent.
Singapore. - It is arrogant to believe that our system of government is the only acceptable system.
Conclusion: As western Europeans in the 21 century we instinctively favour democracy however it may not be appropriate for all countries.
