Introduction: Define dictatorship. Negative associations: Hitler, Mussolini but can be a form of rule that benignly unites a fractured country.

Negative features:

  1. Typically only a ruthless individual come to this type of power.
  2. No checks and balances in their style of rule.
    This type of leadership not allow change.

Positive features

  1. Some countries are very divided and cannot be effectively ruled by a democratic system.
    Tito Yugoslavia
  2. Some dictatorships countries can be very effective because they do not permit debate and dissent.
    Singapore.
  3. It is arrogant to believe that our system of government is the only acceptable system.

Conclusion: As western Europeans in the 21 century we instinctively favour democracy however it may not be appropriate for all countries.
