To protect Bowhead Whales who stopped here annually on the migration around northern Canada this is a protected area where they can not be hunted
Why is it an ideal location for the whales ?
Because it had two deep off shore troughs rich in zooplankton that the whales feed on

Seals , polar bears and Narwhales
