Pons Fabricius

A

Oldest bridge in Rome, goes across the river tiber

Has an opening in its central pier, to allow flood water to pass.

Also protected by a starling which breaks the water in 2 preventing erosion

Bridge at Alcantara

A

Built by Trajan. spanning across the river Tagus

The bridge consists of 6 arches. The central arches are almost 90 feet across.

Middle of the bridge there is an arch in honour of emperor Trajan

Far end also temple to Trajan. reminder of political importance of architecture in Roman provinces.
