APU Flashcards
Can the APU be started and operated if LOW OIL LEVEL ECAM advisory is displayed?
If there is no oil leak, the remaining oil quantity allows normal APU operation for about 10 hours.
Can you use the APU for Wing anti-ice?
No.
In the case of an APU FIRE, does the APU automatically shut down in the air or on the ground?
On the ground.
On battery power only, when you do an APU FIRE test, what are the indications?
APU FIRE pb illuminated in red.
SQUIB and DISCH light illuminated.
How many APU fire bottles are there?
One.
When does the START switch ON light extinguish?
The ON light on the START switch extinguishes 2 seconds after N reaches 95% or when N is above 99.5%.
What happens when you select the APU MASTER SW to OFF?
The ON light on the MASTER SWITCH pb, and the AVAIL light on the START pb, go out.
The APU keeps running for a cooling period of 120s at N 100% speed.
At 7% the air inlet flap closes.
How long will it take for the APU flap to fully close?
The air intake flap closes fully in approximately 20s.
When can we use APU BLEED following an engine failure?
After ENG 1(2) SHUT DOWN:
If the ENG 1 FIRE pb is pushed, APU BLEED must not be used.
If ENG 2 FIRE pb is pushed, APU BLEED may be used, provided the X BLEED selector is set SHUT.
This is because the APU BLEED valve is left of the X BLEED valve. So if there is a fire in ENG 2 and we lose ENG 1 bleed (e.g OVHT), we can still use APU BLEED to run PACK 1. However the X BLEED valve needs to remain closed and therefore we cannot use the WING ANTI ICE as it would only work on the left therefore AVOID ICING CONDITIONS.
