what are the key assumptions of the behaviourist approach?

A

only interested in behaviour that can be observed and measured
Watson(1913) rejected the vagueness of introspection as it was vague and hard to measure
behaviourists tried to maintain more control and objectivity, so relied on lab studies
tabula rasa- we are born as blank slates with the capacity to learn

what is classical conditioning?

A

learning through association
Pavlov(1927) showed how dogs could salivate to the sound of a bell if it was repeatedly presented at the same time they were given food. a neutral stimulus can elicit a conditioned response through association
