Q

Explain Bandura’s research (1961)

A

AIM - to investigate modelling behaviour and if children would show more aggressive behaviour is exposures to an aggressive role model and less aggressive if exposed to a non aggressive role model and to also see if children were more likely to imitate a same sex role model
PROCEDURE:
- 72 children (36 boys, 36 girls) split into 3 groups
A - observed a non aggressive adult model in a room full of toys and ignored the bobo doll
B - observed an aggressive adult model in a room full of toys, the model kicked and punched the bobo doll, and showed verbal aggression by shouting ‘pow ‘ and ‘hit him in the face’
C - control group who didn’t watch a model but played with the toys
- children were taken one at a time to the experimental room with the bobo doll and aggressive and non aggressive toys
- their behaviour was observed through a two way mirror and behaviour was recorded
- group A and B split into 2 and half watched same sex model and other have watched opposite sex model
FINDINGS:
- 70% in group A showed no aggression towards the bobo doll compared to a high level of aggression in group B
- both boys and girls imitated their same sex model more
