Off- base guidance
Security personnel preforming patrol duties off the installation have the same authority to apprehend military personnel as they do on a military installation
Guidance outside the United States
Authority to detain civilians on a us military installation varies in each host nation
Status of forces agreement (sofa) and directives will specify whether you can detain a civilian on the installation
When to apprehend
In order to apprehendyou must have cause that the person has committed or is committing an offense
Sources of probable cause
A) personal observation
B) report by A reliable person
C ) report off complaint or having A positive I’d from a complaint
D) The result of an investigation
Safe distance / reactionary gap
Four to six feet

Transporting
After a suspect is apprehended,handcuffed 1 and searched, they are normally transported to the security police head quarters
Always check the back of vehicle prior and after transport
