Forms of Appreciation:
Full formal appreciation (high level tactical problems)
Shortened note appreciation (non-urgent problems, greater application to daily police duties)
Appreciations can be as what two way
written and mental. Use written when there are several points to consider and there is danger in a point being overlooked. A clear picture of the situation is desired to present a logical argument that will carry convection to a higher authority.

Process of forming an aim:
Review the information you have, and
Identify from this information the ‘Commander’s intent’ and any constraints that have been placed on you.
Commander’s Intent
This is what you are tasked to do or what the situation may require you to do; what the desired end state or outcome will be.
Constraints
Limitation given to you by the ‘commander’s intent’ or out of the information you have received.

Ground, Situation, Mission, Execution, Admin, Command
SMART
SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely (SMART is an acronym used when considering your aim).
