Appendix A Flashcards
What is the solution set?
The collection of all solutions to an equation or condition.
What is a Union Interval?
Union is a set that consists of all the elements that belong to the first interval and all the elements that belong to the second one.
What is an Open Interval?
An interval that does not include the endpoints of an inequality
What is a Closed Interval?
An interval that does include the endpoints of an inequality
What is a Half-Open Interval?
An interval that includes endpoints on only one side of the inequality.
3 - x < 5 + 3x
Basic Form
x^2 -x ≥ 12
Quadratic Inequality because the equation doesn’t have an equal sign and includes the highest degree 2.
True/False:
When solving quadratic inequalities the objective is to get 0 on one side of the equation
True
How do you use a test case to solve a quadratic inequality?
Use the numbers we get from solving the initial equation after factoring and plot them on the number line to test which sections satisfy the given solution.
What is an absolute value?
How is it denoted?
An absolute value represents the [positive value] of the target number. (The distance from 0 to the number)
Denoted with vertical lines surmounting the #
| 4 |
ie. | 4 | is 4
When do you flip the symbol when solving an Inequality?
When you are multiplying or dividing by a negative number.
