Appendix Flashcards
What would happen if your breathing system failed?
You wouldn’t get any oxygen.
What would happen if your circulatory system failed?
You wouldn’t get the substances you need for respiration.
Where do plants make glucose?
In their leaves.
Where does oxygen enter the plant?
Oxygen enters a plant on the plant through pores on the underside of a leaf.
How does the glucose get transported to the cells?
Glucose is dissolved and transported around the plant in a series of tubes called phloem.
What is the equation for respiration in plants?
Oxygen + glucose = water + carbon dioxide +(energy)
What would happen if your digestive system failed?
You wouldn’t get any glucose.
What are the parts of the mitochondria and what functions do they have?
The matrix speeds up respiration, the cristae is where the respiration happens, the outer membrane controls what moves in and out and the inner membrane is highly folded so more respiration can happen.
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in animals?
Glucose = lactic acid +(energy)
Which type of respiration produces lactic acid?
Anaerobic respiration
Which type of respiration produces carbon dioxide?
Aerobic respiration.
Which type of respiration releases energy quickly?
Anaerobic respiration
Which type of respiration makes more energy?
Aerobic respiration
What are lactic acids?
Lactic acids build up in your muscles after you exercise vigorously. This is called oxygen debt, because you have to breathe hard to get rid of the acids. You must get rid of them because they cause pain.
What are the products of anaerobic respiration in plants?
Ethanol and carbon dioxide
