A
Inflammation of the inner lining of the appendix

*If it stops hurting that means it gets worse! Like peritonitis

Etiology and Patho
A
Obstruction in the appendiceal lumen
- IBD
- Infections
- Fecal stasis and fecaliths
- Others (foreign objects, tumors, etc)

A
Essentially poop stones

Clinical Manifestations
A
Abdominal pain
- followed by N/V
- Migrates from periumbilical area to RLQ
- Rebound tenderness over McBurney Point, pain on percussion, rigidity, guarding

A
Just above the right hip.

Diagnosis
A
Complete H&P Labs: WBC, c-reactive protein Urinalysis Ultrasonography Imaging: KUB, CT, MRI Barium enema studies

Treatment
A
Antibiotics
Fluid Rescuscitation
Surgery (Appendectomy)
