what does the dermal papilla do?
Nourishes the hair follicles, supplies food + oxygen to the hair +skin from blood cells via capillaries, arties &viens
what does the matrix do?
matrix is wrapped around the dermal papilla, forms the new hair bulb by producing cells called melanocytes.
what are melanocytes made up from?
made from keratin and are the fastest growing cells in the body
where do the suderoforous glands travel from?
travel from above the subcutaneous layer through the dermis and up to the epidermis.
what do suderofolours glands release?
water which is then released as perspiration through sweat pores to cool us down when we are hot.
what are along the hair follicles?
Sebaceous glands
what are sebaceous glands?
produce oil called sebum which naturally protects and conditions the hair, overreactive sebaceous glands - or more than 3- can cause excessive oily hair
what does the hair follicle do?
the follicle stretches from the hair bulb through to the epidermis.
where is the hair shaft?
the hair seen outside the follicle and above the epidermis is the hair shaft
where is the arrector pili muscle located?
is attached to the hair follicle and the epidermis
what does the arrector puli muscle do?
when we are cold or scared, the muscle contracts and causes to lift. it traps a warm layer of air between the hairs and protects us from the cold
what do nerves travel through?
Subcutaneous layer, into the dermis and attach to the lower layers of the epidermis.
what are nerves attached to ?
nerves attached to hair follicles causing discomfort when the hair is pulled.
