Apparatus L-7 Flashcards
100 FOOT aerial precise elevation…
0-80 degrees above horizontal
LOAD capacity …
250-750 lbs, at tip depending on DEGREE OF ELEVATION
Aerial is controlled from..
-rear operated pedestal
length-36 ft
width-8” with stabilizers nested
18’4” with stabilizers down (*5’2” on each side)
Stabilizers…
one on each side near REAR WHEELS of apparatus, operated from controls in rear compartment
-activation of PTO sends power from he transmission to the hydraulic system, instead of apparatus drive train
Activating PTO..
- neutral
- engage MAXI BRAKE
- front brake lock switch to ON position (front brake light will illuminate )
- open RED cover of PTO control switch and flip UP(PTO LIGHT ILLUMINATE)
disengate PTO-AERIAL LADDER BEDDED AND STABILIZERS NESTED
Stabilizers each require clearance of ??
5’2”
-controls in back of apparatus
A properly place stabilizer will cause..?
GREEN stabilizer down light to illuminate in STABILIZER CONTROL COMPARTMENT
-when both stabilizers are properly inlace, BOTH green lights will illuminate and a signal is sent to the interlock diverter valve
IDV: will not permit operation of the aerial ladder unless the ground stabilizers are properly set..it will also not permit nesting of the ground stabilizers unless aerial is properly bedded
if a function of Interlock diverter valves fails…
- the ladder or stabilizers can be moved by accessing the OVERRIDE CONTROLS LOCATED IN THTE INTERLOCK CONTROL COMPARTMENT in the rear of apparatus
- OVERRIDING IDV for emergency use only (IC immediately notified )
When lowering stabilizers, lower ____first ?
INBOARD SIDE (WORKING SIDE)
-high idle faster operation
move stabilizer control handle toward OUT/DOWN position until the stabilizer is FULLY EXTENDED HORIZONTALLY
-Pause prior to contact with ground to place GROUND STABILIZER PAD (used at all times)
-BOTH STABILIZER GREEN lights MUST BE ILLUMINATED before aerial can be operated
-manual safety pins HIGHEST hole possible
Ground not level.?
start with stabilizer on LOWEST SIDE FIRST –FULLY EXTENDED (direction apparatus is leaning )
- the high side stabilizer should be lowered to a point that LEVELS apparatus
- utilize the INCLINOMETER
- if the inboard stabilizer is also the HIGH SIDE, it must be fully extended then lowered as necessary to level
Extension footage numbers are located not he base section vertical struts and the corresponding bright colored vertical strut of the second section…
When the colored strut is lined up with a footage number the ladder is extended to that respective length
- depress aerial enable foot switch for movements
- [refer to inclinometer ,located inside of the aerial base section to determine the hoisted degrees of the ladder above horizontal , always match the inclinometer and extension footage numbers for proper load capacity
AERIAL EMERGENCY HYDRAULIC OPERATION…
- used when the NORMAL PTO FAILS OR THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND THE AERIAL LADDER OR JACKS NEED TO BE USED
- when using this system, all functions will operate at reduced speed
- electrical pump and batteries need a cool down period between operations
- the ENGINE CANNOT BE RUNNING when the NORMAL/EMERGENCY hydraulic switch is placed in the auxiliary position enabling the electric hydraulic pump
ROTATION LIMITING DEVICE..
- LIMITS turntable rotation to keep apparatus from overturning during operations
- device will activate when either apparatus stabilizers have not been fully extended horizontally (SHORT JACKED ) or there is mechanical malfunction –when either of these situations occur, device will not allow ladder rotation of more than 15 degrees from the center line of apparatus toward the side which has the short jacked condition
-can be overridden by EMERGENCY OVERRIDE ROTATION LIMIT SWITCH…on pedestal control panel…momentary switch which must be held while depressing the AERIAL enable foot switch at the base of pedestal and operating the rotation lever (alarm will sound and safe rotation limit exceed indicator light will illuminate )–before using the switch ensure MECHANICAL LOCKS FOR JACKS ARE IN PLACE
if there is a malfunction of ROTATION LIMITING DEVICE..
