Verse the Creed is based on
Matthew 28:19
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
Origin of the Creed
“Creed” comes from the Latin word “credo” which means “I believe.” And Christians learned it by saying each week.
When baptized, Christians were asked if they believed the words of the Creed.
It grew longer as the churches clarified beliefs to defend against heretics.
