SFA

A

Semantic Feature Analysis (Boyle & Choelho)

  • can be used with any type of aphasia/anomic client
  • aims at strengthening semantic relationships
  • to remediate word-retrieval deficits by emphasizing semantic meanings and relationships of target words to promote generalization to untrained words

(asked to generate semantic features about the picture)

A

Phonological Components Analysis (Leonard et al.,)

—used for pt with word retrieval deficits at the post-semantic level

–used to enhance and strengthen associations between lexical semantics and phonological representations for correct production

–asked to name picture and then asked to generate 5 phonological components (rhymes with, first sound associate, etc)

PACE

A

Promoting Aphasics Communicative Effectiveness (PACE) - (Davis & Wilcox)

*** always do a modified pace and DO NOT do with a fluent aphasia

  • barrier game format
  • mirror natural interaction of conversation by using turn taking format

–clinician and client take turns describing pictures unknown to each other following the PACE principles

** important to realize that there is freedom of communication channel selection (gesture, write, point, draw, speak)
