All Progressives Congress (APC)
The All Progressives Congress is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with its main rival, the People’s Democratic Party. It was founded on 6 February 2013.

set up in 1998, is the electoral body which was set up to oversee elections in Nigeria.
Indirect rule
a system of government of one nation by another in which the governed people retain certain administrative, legal, and other powers.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)
an international organization that acts as a lender of last resort, providing loans to troubled nations, and also works to promote trade through financial cooperation
Jonathan, Goodluck
He is a member of PDP, former governor of Bayelsa State, who was sworn in as VP under Yar’Adua in 2007. When Yar’Adua fell ill and left to get treatment in a Saudi Arabian hospital, the Federal court confirmed Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President. Yar’Adua returned to Nigeria and died in 2010, but Jonathan remained as Acting President. He won election on his own right in 2011.

Prebendalism/Clientelism/Patron-client system
Prebendalism is the extreme practice of clientilistic networks, which is present in Nigeria. The government battle corruption constantly, a form of which is providing government jobs and pay to others in exchange for favors or loyalty.

vote in which the winner needs to win more votes than any other candidate
Rentier state
A country that obtains much of its revenue from the export of oil or other natural resources.
Rule of law
principle that the law applies to everyone, even those who govern
Sharia Law
the system of Islamic law, based on varying degrees of interpretation of the Qu’ran
State corporatism
a political system in which the state requires all members of a particular economic sector to join an officially designated interest group
Structural adjustment program
a program to reform the structure of an economy, usually including budget re routing
The “National Question”
National Question is a general term used for questions relating to nationalities, nationalism, and nations. More specifically, the term usually refers either to the various theories about dealing with national questions (e.g. how does ideology XYZ solve the national question?), or to any particular national problem that manifests itself somewhere in the world
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
The Peoples Democratic Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with its main rival, the All Progressives Congress. Its policies generally lie towards the centre-right of the political spectrum.[2] It won every presidential election between 1999 and 2011 and was, until the 2015 elections, the governing party in the Fourth Republic
World Bank
A specialized agency of the United Nations that makes loans to countries for economic development, trade promotion, and debt consolidation. Its formal name is the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Yoruba
Ethnic group largely confined to southwest Nigeria whose members are divided among Christian, Muslim, and local animist faiths.
