What is an unconscious bias
Unconscious biases are learned stereotypes that are automatic, unintentional, deeply ingrained, universal and able to influence behaviour
How do you promote diversity of user needs
Being aware, promoting diversity, mixing up teams
Definition of inclusive environment
Recognises and accommodates differences in the way people use the built and natural environment. It facilitates dignified, equal and intuitive use by everyone.
What is part M
Minimum requirements to ensure a broad range of people are able to access facilities within buildings
What is social cohesion
Refers to the strength of relationships and the sense of solidarity among members of a community
Why is it important to have choice
It allows equal opportunities
What is direct/indirect discrimination
Direct - direct discriagainst employee
Indirect - all employees treated the same but certain employees are put at advantage because of this

Acceptance and inclusion of employees from all backgrounds
Explain your understanding of inclusion in the workplace?
1) creating an environment where everyone feels they belong
2) employees feel comfortable to voice their opinions and that no one feels excluded because of their identity
What is your understanding of the RICS inclusive employer quality mark?
RICS is launching inclusive employer quality mark - IEQM. Designed to improve diversity etc.
Requires employers to pledge commitment to following 5 principles
1. Leadership and vision
2. Recruitment
3. Staff development/retention/engagement
4. Continuous improvement
Firms will require to assess their performance bi-annually and RICS will monitor trends…
What are the main benefits of diversity and inclusion
Attract right skillset from diverse backgrounds
Increases productivity
Establishes sense of belonging

Allows employees to be valued and accepted
What is the RICS doing to improve Diversity and Inclusion?
RICS set up Diversity and Inclusion which is a knowledge hub to share ideas
Includes initiatives such as:
1. Celebrating women’s days
2. Pride 2023 LGBTQ+ Equality pledge
