What are the common requirements for all the academic writing styles?
- All parts of the paper, including the page number, should be in Times New Roman, 12.
- The top, bottom and sides of the page should set at 1 inch.
- Paragraph spacing must be 0.00; indentation of each paragraph’s first line should be 0.50 inches; the body of the paper must be left-aligned.
- An essay should be typed in 12-point font size with double spacing (2.0)
- All necessary details such as your name, course, and others should be included on the title/front page.

How should the title look like?
The title should be:
1. Centered
2. Bold
3. Written in title case
4. It should upper case and lower case letters in between
5. It should be 3/4 lines below the top of the margin
Rules to follow when writing an abstract/introduction
- Abstract title should be centered and bolded at the top of the page
- The main paragraph of the abstract should not be indented.
- Abstract do not need citations unless requested.
How to write subject titles
Level 1: Centered, Boldface, Title case heading.
Level 2: Flush left, Boldface, Title Case
Level 3: indented 0.5” from the left margin, bolded, lower case.
Problems to avoid with headings.
- Avoid stacked headings: Intervening text needed
- Avoid putting headings at the wrong levels
- Avoid pronouns referring to headings, restate the heading in the topic sentence.
How to write in-text cites in APA
1.All information from sources should be cited in the text.
2.Before, the period of a sentence, in two brackets, write the citation as, (the Author’s surname, the year).
3.If the authors in a citation are more than 3, Write the name of the (first author et al., Year)
How to format the titles of sources within the text.
- Titles of sources mentioned in the text should be in the title case
- Italicize the titles of longer works such as books, edited collection, movies, television series, documentaries, or albums.
- Put quotation marks around the titles of shorter works such as journal articles, articles from edited collections, television series episodes, and song titles.
- Arrange them alphabetically
- 0.5” hanging is required.
