Apostrophe
The use of slang or informalities in speech or writing.

Colloquial
The non-literal, associative meaning of a word.
He was a pig! (He ate a lot)
Connotation
The strict, literal term of a term
chicken- a domestic fowl kept for its eggs or meat, especially a young one.
Denotation
The writer’s word choice, especially with regard to their correctness, clearness, or effectiveness.
“Could you be so kind as to pass me the milk?” Vs. “Give me that!”
Diction
Literally means “teaching.” Works that have a primary aim of teaching.
Ms. Karn teaches English.
The hare and the tortoise teaches a valuable lesson
Didactic
A more agreeable term or less offensive substitute for a generally unpleasant concept.
They aren’t a liar, they’re just creative with the truth -TMP
