Literary Device that is easy to identify in literary works. Occurs when incongruity appears between expectations of something to happen and what actually happens instead. Audience may expect final outcome to be opposite of what occurs.
Situational Irony
Character that does not undergo change or very little change. Character that does not develop and grow

Static Character
Literary genre that uses daily used language in writing and speaking. Different from written works, as they normally follow formal variety of language. Refers to “writing of the public”
Vernacular
Vernacular is use of everyday ordinary language in speaking. Like how corn is actually called maize but everyone refers to it as corn. Dialect is related to specific region, geographical area, particular social class, or occupational group. Also uses distinguished pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar (people of Shanhgi have different dialect than people of Yuhan)

Figure of speech that is used to intentionally make a situation seem less important than it is.
Understatement
Known as homily, originates from Greek word “Eulogia” which means to praise somebody or something. Literary device that is a laudatory expression is speech, or written tribute to a recently deceased person.
Eulogy
related to specific region, geographical area, particular social class, or occupational group. Also uses distinguished pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar
Dialect
Extreme pride and arrogance shown by a character that ultimately brings about his downfall. Found is authors attitude toward reader, used in characters to achieve a moralistic end.
Hubris
Literary device used for protagonist character that has characteristics opposite of that of a typical hero. Heroes are normally praised for bravery, strength, and charm while anti-heroes are unsolicited and unskilled with both good and bad qualities.
Anti-hero
Persuasive technique and type of propaganda through which a writer persuades their readers so a majority could agree with writers argument, suggesting that the majority agrees makes the reader think they should too.
