What does the word intermediate mean?
Between a superficial and a deep structure e.g the biceps muscle is intermediate between the skin and the humerus.
What does the word medial mean?
Nearer to the median plane e.g the 5th finger is on the medial side of the hand.
What does the word lateral mean?
Farther from median plane e.g the thumb is on the lateral side of the hand.
What does the word superior mean?
Nearer to head e.g the heart is superior to the stomach.
What does the word inferior mean?
Nearer to the feet e.g the stomach is inferior to the heart.
What does the word posterior mean?
Nearer to back e.g the heel is posterior to the toes.
What does the word anterior mean?
Nearer to the front e.g the toes are anterior to the ankle.
What does the word proximal mean?
Nearer to trunk or point of origin e.g the elbow is proximal to the wrist and the proximal part of an artery is its beginning.
What does the word distal mean?
Farther from trunk or point of origin e.g the wrist is distal to the elbow and the distal part of the upper limb is the hand.
What is the dorsal surface?
When the hand is showing?
What is the palmar surface?
When the palm is showing.
What is plantar surface?
When the soles of your feet is showing, the back of your feet.
What is the dorsal surface?
Front feet, the dorsum of your foot.
