What are the five regions of the body?
Head, neck, torso, upper extremities, and lower extremities.
What consists of the head?
Skull and face.
What consists of the torso?
Chest, abdomen and pelvis.
What consists of the upper extremities?
Arms, armpits and shoulders.
What consists of the lower extremities?
Legs, buttocks, thighs, knees, ankles and feet.
What are the three planes of the body?
Sagittal plane, the coronal plane and the transverse plane.
What is the sagittal plane?
The SP is a vertical plane that travels down the middle of the human body and divides the body into right and left portions.
What is the coronal plane?
The CP runs vertically through the side of the body, diving it into the front of the body(anterior) and the back of the body (posterior).
What is the transverse plane?
The TP runs horizontally, separating the top half of the body from the bottom half.
What does the word superficial mean?
Closer to the surface of the body e.g the bony skull and vertebral column are superficial to the brain.
What does does the word deep mean?
Deep means away from the body surface (usually more internally placed) e.g spinal cord is deeper.
