What are the 2 categories (purposes) of film music?
Diegetic music and Non diegetic music
Diegetic
Music contained within the action e.g. music playing on the tv or somebody singing to an audience in a club, characters watching tv
Non diegetic
Background music supporting the on screen action e.g. to reinforce and reflect the drama. It isn’t heard by the on screen characters but by film audiences.
