Treaty of Paris

Structure of Government (powers, votes needed to approve laws, votes needed to amend-change the AoC, etc.)
To approve laws in the AoC there needed to be 9 out of 13 votes. In order to change the AoC there needed to be 13 out of 13 votes,
Problems of the AoC
Weak central government, financial problems and problems with foreign nations.
Shay’s Rebellion
Proved the Articles of Confederation were too weak to govern the United States.
Constitutional Convention
Purpose
It made them realize that the AoC was too weak and to come up with a better solution
Issues/Compromises Made; How will the states and the people be represented in the new government?
Each state was guaranteed 2 senators and all decisions needed 51% on both sides
Should enslaved people count toward a state’s population?
For every 5 slaves 3 of them counted at citizens
How can we guarantee this new, strong government will not abuse its power and infringe on the rights of the people?
The Bill of Rights was created and ten amendments to the constitution were approved and the Constitution was ratified.
Where should the new nation’s government be located?
In Washington D.C.
