Verb mood: What’s an imperative mood?
A command. ie: Hurry up, listen to me
Verb mood: What’s an indicative mood?
Indicates a fact. ie: He will never be satisfied, Patrick plays the guitar.
Verb mood:What’s interrogative mood?
Where there is a question. ie: Have you read this?
Verb mood:What’s a conditional mood?
Expresses a preposition, made up of modal verb ‘would’ + the.= inf verb with ‘to’.
ie: I would like sushi for dinner, I would live in London if I could afford it.
Verb moods:What’s a subjunctive mood?
Describes a hypothetical situation.
ie: if I were you, I would be careful-> hypothetical because I am not you!
It’s important that you agree to these terms-> hypothetical because you haven’t agreed to these terms yet.
What are the 4 different categories of adverbs?
Place
Manner
Time
Frequency
Adverb: what’s place?
Indicates a location ie: inside, outside, near
Adverbs: what’s manner?
Describe things way happen: happily,sadly
Adverbs: what’s time?
Indicates a time: soon,tomorrow.
Adverbs: what’s frequency?
How often something happens: always,never,sometimes.
What do adverbs modify?
Verbs, adjectives and other adverbs
What are examples of personal pronouns?
Mine,yours,ours,his hers
What are verbal verbs?
Concerned with communications. ie: Harry shouted at his mum.
What’s stative verbs?
Describes actions/states that are constant.
ie: think,believe,love
What are stative verbs broken down by?
Mental or relational verbs
What’s a mental verb?
Mental stative verbs, describe intrinsic process.
ie: Sara loved her brother dearly
What’s relational verbs?
Shows relation between things/state of being
ie: Isaac OWNS three cars
The box CONTAINS many socks
What’s a transitive verb?
Has direct object. I want a BIKE 🚲
What’s intransitive verb?
Has no direct object. ie: Jenny SLEEPS, Danny ARRIVED
What’s active voice?
Subject performing action, verb uses active voice
Ie:Ryan played the character well, Christian loved his wife
What’s passive voice?
Subject being acted on, passive to action. Verb uses P voice.
Ie: The character was played well by Ryan, Christians wife was loved by Christian.
What’s a synonym?
Words that have the same meaning, different words.
ie: Beautiful,attractive,pretty
What’s an antonym?
Words that mean the opposite.
Beautiful= horrible,ugly,disgusting
What’s a homophone?
Words with the same sound. ie: Their,there and they’re
What’s a homograph?
Words with the same spelling. ie: I read that book, I like to read
What’s a homonym?
Words with the same sound and spelling. ie: I can throw that can in the bin. 2 meanings sentence.
