Concrete noun
A noun that refers to a physical thing, person or place. E.g book, door.
Proper noun
A noun that serves as the name for a specific place, person or thing. E.g London, Bond Street, Aman.
Abstract noun
Nouns that describe conceptual things that cannot be sensed such as emotions, feelings, characteristics, states on being and time. E.g love, sadness, guilt, stress.
Adjective
Words that describe the qualities or states of being of nouns. E.g beautiful, lovely, pretty.
Dynamic verb
Verbs that describe action. E.g run, jump, work, play.
Stative verb
Verb that describes a state of being. E.g think, believe, like, value.
Auxiliary verb
To do, to be, to have.
Modal verb
Verbs that express possibility or necessity. E.g should, would, could, might, will, must, ought.
Adverbs of manner
Slowly, quickly, happily, perfectly.
Adverbs of degree
Very, quite, really, slightly, extremely, so, completely, utterly.
Adverbs of frequency
Never, always, usually, sometimes.
Imperative
A direct command. E.g sit down.
Declarative
A simple statement providing information. E.g the cat sat on the mat.
Interrogative
A question. E.g what is it?
Exclamative
Denotes an exclamation. E.g what a beautiful dress!
Simple sentence
Sentence that contains one idea. E.g the dog barked.
Compound sentence
A sentence that contains two independent clauses. E.g she completed her homework, and studied new content.
Minor sentence
An incomplete sentence, short response. E.g never.
Complex sentence
Made up of a main clause and subordinate clause. E.g because my pizza was cold, I put it in the microwave.
Subordinate conjunctions
After, although, as, as if, because, therefore, despite, yet, since, even though.
