Benzodiazapines

A

most common, highly addictive, increased tolerance
inhibits GABA “am” “pam”
CI-pregnancy disorders that cant tolerate, african american
SE- Sedation, drowsiness, blurred vision, head ache, confusion, dry mouth, consitpation, increased liver enzymes
hypotension, palpitation, resp, difficulty, anemia, blood dyscrasias, retention, hesitency, loss of libedo,
abrupt cessation can cause withdrawal syndrome
NI-injection site, liver enzymes, taper dose gradually, safety measures, teaching- no machines, dont share meds, take as prescribed.

Buspirone-antianxiety *doesnt cause addiction…not PRN…does not cause addiction, sedation, or muscle relaxation 2-4 weeks to work.
Eszopiclone (lunesta)- works with GABA
Ramelteon- (rozerem- melatonin receptor
Zaleplon (sonata) Zolpidem (ambien) seratonin
