Competitive Trait Anxiety
The performer finds all competitive situations threatening
Competitive State Anxiety
The performer responds nervously to some sporting situations
Somatic Anxiety
Where anxiety produces physical (physiological) effects on the body eg sweating, shaking and causes increased heart rate. Link to anat and phys with release of adrenaline.
Cognitive Anxiety
In the brain of the performer (psychological), can cause scattered thinking and an inability to focus, worry and stress
SCAT Test
One way to measure anxiety. Consists of 15 statements designed to see how a player responds to competitive sporting situations. Produces a SCAT score so that the coach can identify where the performer becomes the most anxious
Disadvantages of the SCAT test
Disadvantages of the Tests -
- People may not answer the questionnaire honestly
- Depends on when the performer completes the questionnaire, situational
