Reactive Aggression
Aggression in response to other aggressive behaviour eg a spectator getting involved in hooliganism in football
Instrumental Aggression
Using an aggressive act to achieve a goal which isn’t aggressive itself eg smashing the ball at the opponent in tennis doubles in order to win the point and gain a psychological advantage or sticking your bum out in so that the opponent can’t get to the ball easily in squash
Difference between assertion and instrumental aggression
instrumental aggression involves the aim to gain a psychological advantage but is within the rules
