Adverse Effects
– renal insufficiency!!
Special consideration:
- Use w/ emtricitabine for pre/post exposure prophylaxis

adverse effects:
– Hyperpigmentation of the palms
– Skin discoloration
Lamivudine
Special considerations:
– caution using with Epivir HBV!
NNRTI Drugs?
- Efavirenz
- Rilpirivirine
- Neviripine
Efavirenz
Adverse effects:
- CNS side effects (subside after 2 wks), Rash, elevated LFTs, teratogenic
Special Considerations:
- 600 mg @ bedtime on empty stomach, False-positive canabinoid test
Rilpirivirine
Indications:
-NOT in high viral loads
Special Considerations:
- Avoid PPI’s
Neviripine
Adverse effects:
- Hepatitis, fatal hepatic necrosis

- No effect on lipids!
- Avoid PPIs

- Rash

- Caution in sulfa allergies
