Acyclovir/Zovirax
Buccal form avoid w/ milk protein allergy, BUN & SCr monitor, stop taking med 24 hours before varicella vaccine, avoid in pt taking methotrexate (toxic liver drugs)
Docosanol/Abreva
Should not be used in kids under 12
Famciclovir/Famvir
BUN & SCr monitor, stop taking 24 hours before varicella vaccine
Foscarnet/Foscavir
Monitor BUN, CBC, ECG, SCr. May cause electrolyte imbalances, must be infused slowly
Gancyclovir/Cytovene
Monitor BUN, CBC, LFT, SCr. May cause bone marrow suppression, must be infused slowly, pt should stop taking 7 days before starting cidofovir
Imiquimod/Aldera
Can weaken contraceptive devices when taken in pubic area
Oseltamivir/Tamiflu
Must start within 48 hours of flu symptoms, pt should stop taking 2 weeks before intranasal LAIV
Remdesivir/Veklury
Avoid in pt taking chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine
Valacyclovir/Valtrex
Monitor BUN & SCr, pt should stop taking 24 hours before varicella vaccine, avoid in pt taking methotrexate (kidney toxic drugs)
Valgancyclovir/Valcyte
Monitor BUN, CBC, SCr. May cause bone marrow suppression, NIOSH, avoid in pt taking methotrexate (kidney toxic drugs)
Zanamivir/Relenza
Must start within 48 hours of flu symptoms, pt should stop taking 2 weeks before LAIV intranasal
Cabotegrevir/Apretude
High alert med, must be injected by healthcare provider, pt must be HIV negative before therapy
Emtricitabine & tenofovir alafenamide/Descovy
Monitor BUN & SCr, high alert med, pt must be HIV negative before therapy, caution if pregnant or breastfeeding
Emtricitabine & tenofovir disoproxil/Truvada
Monitor BUN & SCr, high alert med, pt must be HIV negative before therapy
