Antiplatelets Flashcards
Aspirin MOA?
M.O.A: irreversibly inhibits platelet COX-1 → ↓ thromboxane formation → no platelet aggregation
Uses of Aspirin?
Reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes
Adverse effects of Aspirin?
- Bleeding
- Bronchospasm
Which anti-platelet drug is more potent than aspirin but causes less bleeding?
Clopidogrel
Clopidogrel MOA?
M.O.A: irreversibly inhibit ADP receptors (P2Y12 receptors) → no platelet aggregation
Uses of Clopidogrel?
Reduce the risk for heart attacks and stroke
Adverse effect of Clopidogrel?
Bleeding disorders
Uses of Abciximab (2) ?
1- unstable angina
2- following percutaneous coronary intervention
Which antiplatelet drug causes a 48 hour platelet dysfunction?
Abciximab
Abciximab MOA?
M.O.A: An antibody that blocks platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptors
Which antiplatelet drug has a short half life due to strong, fast, and prolonged binding of the drug to the receptor?
Abciximab
Which antiplatelet drugs reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes?
Aspirin & Clopidogrel
