antiparticles Flashcards
what are antiparticles
particles which have the same mass to its corresponding particle but and equal opposite charge
what do all fundamental particles have
a corresponding anti-particle
what are the 4 quantum numbers
charge
baryon number
lepton number
strangeness
what are quantum numbers
they describe the specific quantum properties of elementary particles
for the 4 quantum numbers the antiparticles have
opposite signs to their corresponding particles except the 0, which remain 0
what is the electrons antiparticle
positron
what is the rest of the particles antiparticle
the name of the particle with the word anti infront of it
what is the neutrinos antiparticle
electron antineutrino
what are the special cases for the antiparticle symbols
electron
muon
what is the positron symbol
e+
what is the anti-muon symbol
μ+
what is the rule for all the other anti-particle symbols
the particle symbol with a bar on top
how is antihydrogen created
for an atom of hydrogen its nucleus is just a single proton with a quark composition of uud
they then combined two anti-up quarks with an anti-down quark to create an antiproton
the anti-proton is then combined with a positron to create an anti-hydrogen
how does hydrogen compare to anti-hydrogen
different quantum numbers but behaves the same
